ABOUT

English

My name is Michele Medina (one "l") and I am a violinist. But I am more than that. Because of music and the violin I have been introduced to some the most exquisite things in life. These things include dance, visual arts, languages and communication, history, societal culture, education, and the humanities.

I realized at some point after graduation (B.A. Art History and Spanish; M.A. Elementary Education) what I actually wanted to do was a performance combining visual arts, movement, and music. Art history is a resource and inspiration for me, as is seeking out other artistic disciplines. One of the most exciting things to me is seeking out ways that disciplines interconnect with each other, thus offering dimension and exposure of an artform or artforms to become a stronger connection with an audience.

I am also a language and content teacher in the public school system. I chose this as a profession so that I can connect with youth and offer them the awareness of the cultivation of the arts, whether it is music, gymnastics, dance, or other activities which go beyond the doors of a school. Education is an important door to life, part of my life, and everyone is a born student. It is just our ways of learning that are different.

I am a classically trained violinist but find significance and freedom in musical imporvisation and experimentation. I have a wide range of experience including playing in and organizing chamber music, creating and collaborating with different art forms, and providing for different art forms. One thing I realized, however, is that the world is full of talented and competent musicians and artists, yet there aren't enough venues or exposure for those of us who aren't students, nor are we professionals. It is my goal to create and collaborate with this range of experience and create ties between various community members and performers of all backgrounds.
